Nikita J. Patel, OD, received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Psychology at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Patel then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in Columbus, Ohio. During her optometry education, Dr. Patel developed a special interest in Myopia management (nearsightedness). She cares deeply about working with children to slow the progression of nearsightedness and prevent its negative health effects on the eye. Myopia is not just an inconvenience. It can also significantly increase the risk of permanent vision loss. Myopia management involves intervening with special methods of vision correction to slow down the rate of Myopia progression as a child ages (which can include spectacles, contact lenses, and/or special eye drop treatments). She uses advanced technology that aids in both the diagnosis and design of truly custom Myopia management solutions. Dr. Patel is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. She frequently attends conferences to stay abreast with the latest research, new technologies and approaches for Myopia management.
She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and Ohio Optometric Association. Dr. Patel‘s personal time is spent in a variety of pursuits including spending time with her husband and her son, cooking, baking, yoga, and traveling.
