JOB TITLE: Materials Manager and Sterilization Technician
DEPARTMENT: Surgery Center
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Office and Director of Nursing
SCHEDULE: Full time, minimum 30 hours per week
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting our team of surgeons and nurses with ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgical instrument sterilization and inventory/materials management. Maintenance includes cleaning and sterilizing of instruments according to AORN, AAAHC guidelines and policies of the ASC. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining all perioperative equipment in the surgery center. Maintains cost-effective purchasing, ordering and comparing. Works closely with nursing administration and physicians to ensure that all equipment, supplies and instrumentation are present and in working order to provide the highest quality care. Employee may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinating surgical supplies needed with nursing staff
Review surgery schedules for upcoming special supply needs and order timely
Anticipate volume of items needed for standard procedures
Oversee stocking, inventory, physical counts and expiration dates on ASC supplies, uniforms and linens
Review invoices for accuracy and allocate
Coordinate biohazard disposal
Maintain cleanliness in the workplace
Assist with equipment and instrument sterilization
Ensure all equipment is in proper working order
Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses and anesthesia team
Be able to multitask efficiently
Maintains confidentiality of patient surgery center related business
Follows strict HIPPAA Guidelines and Patients Rights and Responsibilities
Work cohesively as a team with other staff members
AAAHC and Medicare guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Scrub Technician preferred
Certified Sterilization Technician preferred
Previous experience required
Knowledge of medical terminology and instruments
Interpersonal skills and human relations skills
Ability to organize and prioritize
